About SPSO

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1972 to provide performances of the highest artistic caliber to entertain, educate enrich, and expand the cultural lives of the residents of the area.

Originally started the North Penn Symphony Orchestra, the organization was founded by celebrated educator and conductor Leonard Murphy, who shaped the orchestra, into a cultural fixture of the North Penn region for three decades.

After a national search, Philadelphia Conductor Allan R. Scott was appointed the second Music Director starting with the 2002-2003 Season.  In addition to his position with the Helena Symphony Orchestra & Chorale (Helena, MT) and several guest engagements with orchestras, opera companies, and ballet companies throughout the world, Maestro Scott continues to bring an exciting vision and artistic excellence for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra as a regional professional orchestra.

Musicians from throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York are members of the 75-member Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra.  Many of the nation’s leading soloists have appeared with the Orchestra, including Pianists Claire Huangci, Simon Tedeschi, Carl Cranmer, Cellist Ovidiu Marinescu, Violinists Robyn Bollinger, Petteri Iivonen, Richard Amoroso, and Amy Oshiro, and Clarinetist Ricardo Morales.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra reaches thousands of people every year, and makes a cultural, social, education, and financial impact to the Montgomery County region.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra is an exempt organization as described in Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.
